MATARIKI CELEBRATIONS

Kia ora parents and caregivers,

Tomorrow we are ending the term with Matariki celebrations.
Some of the Year One students will perform Tirama Tirama on stage while the rest of the Year One students will join in the singing!

HE KARERE - THE NEWS! NAU MAI HAERE MAI Our tamariki are putting on a MATARIKI CONCERT FRIDAY 3rd JULY. TIME: 10.45 am - approx lunch time This term our tamariki have been learning about the moon, Māori myths and Matariki. All of this is being portrayed in an end of term  CONCERT CELEBRATION EXTRAVAGANZA hosted by our very own nanny “Nana Ma!” (Lois McIver) There will be drama, costumes, kapa haka & songs! Hope to see you there!

* Papatuanuku/Tamariki Koro kori (Lois talks about Creation & sings)

* Taiaha (Stepping Up Te Reo boys)

* Lois introduces legends by saying that all the above pursuits could be done in the day time thanks to Maui a demi God. “Thanks to the actions of “Maui” a demi God and his bros, we now have more time in the day to do all these fun things.”
Play “How Maui Slowed the Sun” (Ara Teina Yr 2’s)
* Lois makes links of Moon & Sun to now the constellation of Stars i.e. Pleades/Matariki (Draws audience attention to stars on black curtains).
* Year 1 classes sing “Tirama, Tirama”
* Lois talks about there being many legends to explain the seven stars and then introduces the Play “Seven Stars of Matariki”
* Matariki Macarens (Lois teach audience participation)
* Lois concludes the concert and Tania comes on and thanks Nanny for her wisdom and sharing of stories and knowledge.
* Matariki Song sung again by Stepping Up Singers as teachers take classes out of the hall.
