WE ARE WHO WE ARE

Kia ora everybody!

We have had another great week in Room 20.  We went to the library on Wednesday (thanks parents for waiting so patiently- we are looking for a better time slot!) and issued one book out.  We learnt that in the library we have a whisper voice, quiet bodies and turn into Master or Miss Read-a-Book.  That means that we take care of books! We can keep our books at home and bring them back to school the next week on Tuesday morning.

Today we had Ara Teina singing assembly.  We sang the New Zealand national anthem called 'God of Nations'.  We also sang a song called 'Te Kura Arahoe'.  Te Kura Arahoe means Arahoe School.  It is a song written especially for our school.  We will be learning it in Room 20.

On Monday a teacher new to Room 20 will join Miss Ellis.  Mrs Maguire has been studying te reo at university and she can't wait to share what she has learnt with us!  Mrs Maguire has been teaching at Arahoe School for a long time, and is an amazing kaiako (teacher) who plays guitar, sings and leads Kapa Haka.  She will be perfect at teaching us Te Kura Arahoe.  Awesome for us!

Our seedlings are growing!  We have had 4 sprout up.  Hmmm...maybe not enough for planting so the Room 19 and 20 teachers might have to get some seedlings from a nursery where they sell flower seedlings.

Our trip to Ranui Community Gardens is going ahead.  It will be a great family picnic day and the more the merrier.  We need you to help us!  The cost will be $8.50 for the bus.  Maybe we can do some extra jobs around the house.

A big congratulations to our friend who won the class certificate for being an extra ordinary role model!

Have a great weekend everyone!  We will see you on Monday!
Our Class Super Star Kid of the Week got a certificate at Ara Teina Singing Assembly because he is an extraordinary role model and always gives things a go!  Ka pai Super Star!

 Jump Jam in the hall:
Finding letter j in our J book.

 Making our letter j book.
This is excellent quality work!  Great effort Star Kid!
Look at all our letter sound work!
Check out our number work!  We are learning to show numbers in different ways.
Hard at work and staying on the job!  Ka pai Star Kid!
 Another Star Kid super learning.
Learning about number patterns and 10s frames.
We are learning how to draw a trunk, branch and eggs for our chalkboards.  We are learning that we start writing from the top off the trunk (page), we start at the egg (margin) and we go across the branch (line).

We are learning how to form Casey Shapes correctly.  Casey Shapes are the basic shapes which are used in all the letters of the alphabet!  This will help us write our letters correctly.

Wow!  Look at this amazing work!  This Star Kid took her work to Miss P and she had a big chat about the letter sounds, her scientist colours and amazing presentation!
This Star Kid is doing amazing colouring and works super hard to do his better than best.  Ka Pai!
