What a wet day it has been. It is a good time to make sure we have spare clothes in our bags, and gumboots are good for us to wear to school. Raincoats are a great thing for us to pack as well!
Here are some photos of our performance at Ara Teina assembly on Friday. We did such a great job and everyone clapped so hard when we were finished!
This is a link for the song we learnt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ij7EaOyL6rA
Congratulations to our Star of the Week for being a creative thinker and making great choices!
Some of us having been working really hard on writing stories! We are listening for the sounds we can hear in words we want to write, and then we write the letter that makes that sound. Have a look at the photos of us doing all the work that SUPER WRITERS do!
Check out our story that we wrote by ourselves! (Miss Ellis did the p but that is all!!)
We knew how to spell 'we', 'did' 'a' and sounded out 'performance'.
Great work Room 20!
Last Friday we also had visitors in the afternoon and we had a great time making policeman hats!
Today we learnt about the letter u. We use the Casey Shapes 'Cup short stick' to form letter u correctly. We thought of these cool words for our letter chart: unicorn, ukulele, undo, upside down, and umbrella.
We read the poem 'Manners' today. We sang it to the tune of 'I'm a Little Teapot'. We will be going on a letter hunt looking for u and w, and we will find the word 'we.' There are rhyming words in our poem too!
Our big book for the week is 'My Cat Likes to Hide In Boxes.' We can bring a photo of our cat to school to share with our class.
During Reading time we are learning to stretch words out to help us sound out words we don't know how to read. We are getting really good at our letter sounds and learning new words.
Don't forget you can help us by looking at our lists in our Homework books, as well as singing this song with us:
There are some really cool word songs to learn too if we already know all our letter names and letter sounds. Here is one song as an example: Sight Word Song 'said'
In Maths this week we are still working on our Maths journals as well as doing some more Geometry where we are going to make Shape Monsters. Miss Wackrow read us the story 'Bye Bye Big Bad Bully Bug.' We laughed and laughed and laughed. Who knew learning about shapes could be so much fun!
Today we had a competition to design a Road Safety logo that we will screen print onto t.shirts. It would be really cool if you could have a look for a plain coloured t.shirt for us to use. We don't want to buy new t.shirts, especially because this year the theme has been 'Green' and we want to recycle.
So much to do in Room 20!
Thanks for visiting our blog, and don't forget about the disco on Friday!
Ka kite ano, Room 20.
