What a fun filled day we had for our very first day at Arahoe School. Thank you so much for your support in helping the children do their morning jobs, and I was very impressed at the prompt departures this morning. In my experience it helps our new children settle when good byes are not drawn out. So well done! It was great to see everyone in uniform- they all looked so smart.
I actually posted on the blog over the weekend but unfortunately it did not work- my apologies! You can look forward to seeing lots of posts from us in Room 20 and can follow what we are doing in class via our blog. I will also be emailing the class notice every fortnight.
Today I have sent home a reader for your child. Please read the story to your child initially, and sign the homework book. Everyone who does their reading gets a sticker in their notebook the next morning. Practice really does help, and children may sometimes get books they have already read to help boost their confidence.
This term we are learning about worms and recycling. We will build a worm farm and have a trip to the Refuse Station. I will send home a notice for the trip, as well as for a visit from the artist Graham Dodds, who will teach us to sketch and shade on Friday 16th May.
Oh, one last thing- if you have not done so already, can you please bring a change of clothes in a plastic bag (all names please!) as the wintry weather means we sometimes have accidents!
Please feel free to contact me via email: sarahe@arahoe.school.nz, or if you need to chat face to face please let me know and I will make time after school.
The children were fantastic today. We have a class of stars. I am really looking forward to the term, and supporting them during their start at Arahoe School. Please remember 2pm pick ups will last for the week to help them adjust to school life.
Please look at the photos that were taken today!
Thanks,
Sarah
